harrison and i are having some dinnertime struggles. he still has difficulty chewing and swallowing solids. often, they make him gag and puke up everything he just ate. (that's what happened in the "welcome to motherhood" post. it wasn't a sickness bug, ladies. it was, and is, an "adjusting to new foods" bug.)
so, my choices are to let him gag and puke...or to continue feeding him cereal and pureed fruits and veggies. if i choose the latter, harrison gets MAD because i won't let him use the spoon to feed himself.
any advice/suggestions/snide remarks??
do i need to take him to the doctor to have this whole gagging thing checked out??
UPDATE: I'M HAPPY TO REPORT THAT LUNCH WENT WELL. HARRISON ATE BITS OF FRENCH FRIES AND PEAS WITH HIS HANDS. AND I FED HIM PUREED PEARS WITH A SPOON...AND LET HIM PLAY WITH A "GROWN UP" FORK THROUGHOUT. THERE WAS NO GAGGING, NO PUKING, AND NO TEMPER TANTRUMS (FROM EITHER OF US). I WOULD STILL BE INTERESTED IN ANY ADVICE YOU MIGHT HAVE.

I was going to recommend exactly what you did!!! Just don't take away the pureed stuff too early, or he might not eat at all! That is what happened to mine!
yeah, i would definitely keep him on the pureed stuff as long as you can but all the while giving him something he can pick up and eat (or play with) while you are feeding him the less fun stuff. i don't know how old he is, but yogurt is a real good thing! mine loved it and still do. or adding real banana to his cereal or something...
as for the gagging...if you read much on my blog, you'll notice that both of my kids have the most awful and sensitive gag relexes of ALL time....they throw up more than any two little people ever should have to...(if it doesn't happen atleast once a week then something IS wrong :)) but i am happy to report that Jackson is getting SOOOO much better and rarely does it! Praise Jesus there is light at the end of that tunnel!
But doc says its normal...so don't waste your money...unless you really feel something is wrong (always trst the instinct if so...its worth the 25$)....but if it is just choke and puke, or cough and puke, save your money...i wasted mine :)
It sounds like you have it totally under control!
THANK YOU everyone! I needed some "mom" support!
Courtney, thanks so much for letting me know my child isn't the only one in the world with "solid food" issues. it helps to know someone else has been through this. I'll have to go back and read your early blogs...
Glad everyone could help you on that. It's been so long, I truly DON'T remember how I did any of that. Isn't that sad? I'll be calling you!
